WOW WHAT A FIND !!! IT DOES NOT GET BETTER OR RARER THAN THIS !!!
This is a RARE ORIGINAL, UNRELEASED AND UNKNOWN UK ESSEX MUSIC / IMMEDIATE MUSIC PUBLISHING DEMO ACETATE – MOD / PSYCH ACETATE by THE WHO / PETE TOWNSHEND from around 1965/6 + another unknown IMMEDIATE MUSIC PSYCH track from around 1968 !!!
OK, so this ACETATE came from the IMMEDIATE MUSIC PUBLISHING LIBRARY, publishing companies were known for re-using ACETATES as they were expensive, imagine my surprise when one side had an ESSEX MUSIC earlier sticker and when I managed to read the typing on it, I realised I have an UNRELEASED EARLY – THE WHO track, it is funny to see that PETE TOWNSHEND name was mis-spelt as PETER TOWNSHEDD so he might have still been relatively unknown at the time !!!
This track “SAND” has all the marking of a classic THE WHO track, as Pete Townshend wrote nearly all THE WHO tracks, this was probably recorded by himself in the studio but rejected for release, why was it rejected ???
It is also worth mentioning that THE WHO were only signed to ESSEX MUSIC publishing in their early days, from around 1965-1967 later on in the late 1960’s they were only signed to FABULOUS MUSIC !!!
Now I presume this ACETATE was given to someone at the IMMEDIATE MUSIC offices and later on in 1968 they re-used the B side for one of their own tracks, again this track is UNKNOWN and UNRELEASED and is a GREAT PSYCH / MOD number, could be Twice As Much, Billy Nichols or another artist who was signed to IMMEDIATE MUSIC !!!
This ACETATE CAME from the IMMEDIATE MUSIC LIBRARY which I bought and you can see the IMMEDIATE MUSIC LIBRARY number on the other side IMO 346 !!!
The tracks are: The Who / Pete Townshend – “Sand” / Unknown Immediate Music artist – “Look Look”.
Enjoy !!!
